The journal publishes papers that represent important empirical and/or theoretical contributions to our understanding of phenomena related to worker safety, health, and well-being. Journal of Occupational Science publishes original research and scholarly papers on human occupation, defined here as things people do that have meaning and occupy people’s time, with a particular focus on the reciprocal relationship of occupation and health and well-being. This article describes the emergence of occupational science as the knowledge base for occupational therapy.
