We especially invite submissions on the following topics, among others: This peer-reviewed journal is dedicated to presenting leading edge scholarship on behavioral, social, and psychological aspects of occupational health. The journal publishes papers that represent important empirical and/or theoretical contributions to our understanding of phenomena related to worker safety, health, and well-being. Journal of Occupational Science publishes original research and scholarly papers on human occupation, defined here as things people do that have meaning and occupy people’s time, with a particular focus on the reciprocal relationship of occupation and health and well-being. Studies of populations, communities, groups and individuals are accepted, as well as explorations of people’s development as occupational beings, patterns of occupation, societal structuring of occupation, and Abstract. This article describes the emergence of occupational science as the knowledge base for occupational therapy. It recognises the work of Hie faculty of occupational therapy at the University of Southern California as the instigator of this development, and traces the origin of occupational science to occupational therapy pioneers m the USA in the first decades of this century.
